#NicheAmnesty.TV – Blogging Without Borders: Episode 3

Hi guys

So…..I was all pumped up, ready to roll with episode 3 of this wonderful series, in fact the intro was filmed yesterday in Ubud at a ceremony which pretty much blew my mind. Then… I woke up this morning and bam…….Sicksville!

If your new here and want an insight into #NicheAmnesty and the series which you are viewing now, please see here and also here.

Needless to say, I don’t feel good, or look good either! The vain part of me that always want to put my best foot foward….especially on camera, decided that in my current condition video is probably not my best medium for this week :-(

So if you’ll forgive me…there may not be a video to keep you entertained, but I still have a question none the less.

Q. Do you want readers or customers?

This question was inspired by a post I read over Brankica’s place earlier this year, which looked at the situation of having 156+ comments on a post, but no sales! ( go over and see why she is a blogging baddass)

I was then asked the question of whether I want readers or customers fairly recently, so now I’m asking you!

Q. Do you want readers or customers and what are you doing to attract both of these target audiences?

Me at the cremation ceremony is Ubid

Taken 18/08/2011 in Ubud...feeling good, feeling great....but maybe got a little too adventurous with the local food : (

Post of the week: This goes to Bill Dorman  for his awesome post Social media Pedestals over at Danny Browns blog

This post made me and plenty of others have a lot to think about and subsequently… alot to say.

So that’s it folks…I’m turning this baby over to you, and look forward to seeing your thoughts in the comments. I’m sorry there is no video this week, but I’m hoping you will stick with me and this series and share your thoughts, opinions and ideas none the less.

There will be no video on the 2nd of September either …why?    Because I’m bringing you my 2nd series…a collaboration with 2 of the fiercest..most sharp shooting, no BS bloggers, out there…and we plan to bring it and bring it hard…so make sure your tuned in!

Lets start a conversation

It’s all love.xx

I have wondered if we can build a game out of being first to comment. Within the Triberr community, specifically, but perhaps also beyond that.

What do you think? Are you willing to reward the first five commentors with a tweet up where you tweet links to five of the blogger’s blogposts within 48 hours?

It’s just a thought. But I’d like to get your feedback on this.

This is a fun idea…but I can tell you now…I would lose every time as rarely if ever, first to comment. But happy to tweet first 5 commenters posts…If I like them that is, although it’s also fluid whether this will be within 48 hours also. However if therse is a movement…social gathering going on…count me in! How does that sound?

I am often the last person to comment, myself. But one could hope I get lucky now and then. [laughing]

The emphasis, of course, is on the fun. Mr. Dorman’s example (above) is perfect.

I got lucky once………and then I had to get married………..just sayin’………..

That would be kinda cool, sort of a way to give back and promote the community a little differently than just sending out a post via Triberr……..

What is a reader? What is a customer? What about friends?

What about friends?! BAM!

I want my blog to fuel friendship, understanding, and encouragement. Nurse it. Build it. Sustain it. Deepen it. I want friends. I want my blog to be where I can be and become more truly me in service to those who are written (and will be written) in my heart.

How do you “laik” my kung fu now?! [laughing]

If some of those friends strongly want to collaborate with me on amazing things, that’s awesome. Likewise, I am glad to serve my friends as an adviser or a business partner. But on my unofficial blog, I’m not writing for readers, customers, or trolls. Like @TheJackB, I’ll lay the smack down on trolls without a second thought. On the other hand, I don’t put effort into policing the comments.

Of course, I may not succeed in my grand schemes of whole-heartedness. I may fail. But as often as I fail, I can bring it again and again. And, every now and then, I just might get it right.

I think your blog is somewhat the exception to the rule as in your recent post, you made it clear that you do not intend to monetise the blog in anyway, ever. But, I wonder how you feel in your other endeavours whether it is effective to mix business with pleasure? Friends with finance, invoices, paypal check outs, etc

doable…or not!

Here’s my short answer:

Not all friends are suited for all things. Nor do the closet of friends make the best business partners in any venture. Consideration of character, role, contribution, and passion for the specific collaboration cannot be waived for sake of friendship. And we’re just spotting the tip of the iceberg here. It cost me more than one million dollars (out of pocket) and anticipated millions to understand this problematic.

On the other hand, big business is as much about playing hard with business partners as it is about everyone working hard to keep on making the “miracles” happen. So if we’re talking about big money- it doesn’t happen without the thrills. oohs, and ahhs to fuel the madness.

“Not all friends are suited for all things”
I concur…it took me more than a few years to work that one out…but I get this now.
I’m gonna say that even with small money…and engaging the discerning consumers that most of us are…..we still need to provide the thrill…ooh…and ahhhhh….$10 or $10’000000 ….,

We all love a little extra BANG for our Buck!

Hi Stacey,
Sorry you’re sick! This really messes with my head, so I have to answer with my heart. I guess I’m naive enough to believe that if I focus on how I can uniquely serve the world, I’ll be open to ideas to making enough money to take care of my family. So, I don’t want readers or customers. I get up every day and look for what’s missing or broken and how I can fix the problem. I will always serve because it makes me happy and keeps me focused outside of myself. Some of what I do takes time and expertise and deserves to be exchanged for money. I like to do what I do. Hopefully my readers know that. And hopefully I’ll never HAVE to make money! But I also think having customers is invigorating and a load of fun!

Hey didn’t mean to mess with your head hun…just make us all think a little ; ) I had to stop and take an intake of breath when this question was asked of me I was like…” oh..ok, I have thing about this one”, lol

I think there are x amount of people who would gladly pay for the the expertise and knowledge you have, should you choose to take it in that direction…but the most important and obvious thing with you Betsy, is that you love and have a heart for people, and that my friend is…well…priceless.xxx

I’m not trying to be a pain..but I’m curious. How DID you answer that question?
I stressed after I posted my comment. I felt so fake for some reason. After rolling it around in my head forever I concluded that I really do like making money when what I have is valued enough for that exchange. There’s such an energetic flow that I step into when creating and selling. It energizes everyone around me to start creating, too. I can’t survive without friends or money. One’s feeds me emotionally, the other physically. I think I’m always subconsciously trolling for both. Sometimes I think too much!LOL!

If monetization is solely predicated on eyeballs/traffic, then I want them to be customers. However, if my model is networking and branding I want readers; more people who know of me and what I’m all about. If someone helps me open a door I can take it from there. Ultimately for me to make money (in my present environment) I will need a face to face meeting. Get me that, and I will take it from there.

So, I made the post of the week…………….yippeeeee; even if I had to do it at Danny’s place……:).

Get well ma’am, but I can’t possibly believe you wouldn’t have been presentable for the camera.

Hope you are well enough to have a good weekend however.

Domain aside…you made post of the week because you made me stop and think. I’m not sure if monetisation is based on eyeballs and traffic…or whether its based on having a fantastic product that people need and want. If you have a great brand..an engaged network and people trust you =eye balls and traffic….you already have more than a few boxes ticked I’d say?

Hey Stacey,

First off, I’m so sorry you aren’t feeling well. I hate that when that happens and I totally understand not wanting to get on camera when you feel horrible. So, we forgive you and just get some rest.

Now on to your question. I agree with Stan! What about friends? I want my place to be a comfortable place everyone can come to learn, grow, socialize and meet some other amazing people. Because I am building relationships with a lot of these people, it does help me in my business ventures down the road. Why? Because they may not be happy with what they are doing and because they have learned that I’m a person of integrity, they may get curious and want to work with me. They have already learned I’m a helping fool so they’ll never get left behind when they have me on their side. If not, they might love my product or know someone who wants what I have. It’s because of the relationships that I have built is how I’m growing by business.

I guess in a round about long version of what you asked, I’ll go for the comments for now. I’m patient, I can wait!

Take care and get well soon.

Hi Adrienne, I have an uncle who does network marketing…and he said to me something along the lines “of keep growing your network….and you will keep seeing the profit”?
I have never tried any sort of marketing, when I first started this blog all I wanted to do what has a place to write and share. Now I have officially opted out of the 9-5 and it looks likely to be permanent…I’m having to think a little more deeply as to what I am doing, how I’m doing it..and why I’m doing it. Friends and connection (of the personal kind) are still my number 1 importance, I guess my best hope it that when I finally start to take my blog to the next level and offer products and services I put my name to and believe in, my friends and connections will think of me first should they ever have a need to have that which I offer? My mother used to say to me when I was younger and eager for everything to happen..like yesterday..that Patience is a virtue. I’m learning that she was right :-)

Have a good weekend.xx

Hi Stacey.
I just want to enjoy the process and not become overly addicted and impact other areas of my life. For now readers will suffice but do plan eventually to write and market an ebook. I got some thoughts of marketing that I want to try out.

Hi Riley, I think your skill as a writer and discipline and knowledge in having already written a few books will definitely give you an edge when you decide to write your ebook. If you feel so inclined please share your thoughts on marketing with me/us…I could do with all the wisdom and help I can get

Dear Stacey,

I hope you feel better soon. We want you back smiling again.. :D
Has you probably noticed, I am not selling anything (yet!)…. If I was, well I definitely needed somes customers and not just readers.
At the moment, what I want the most is to connect with people in a positive way. To help those who going through the same emotional difficulties as I did (and still do in a way) the best way I can. Some friends along the way, would be very, very nice….. :)

I guess I want it all!, so, there … :D

Take care of yourself, girl!

Hi Stacey,
I would recommend for anyone that has a lot of value to give but doesn’t know how to make money doing it perhaps partnering with or hiring someone who does.

It doesn’t benefit anyone to continually do something for nothing. Our current model doesn’t reward this type of behavior unfortunately. There are way too many bloggers that are having trouble monetizing and marketing their products and services.

Once we live in a world where we can pay the bills with love instead of money than we can give of ourselves freely.

Hi Justin, this comment alone provided a metric ton of value to me. I’ve had the words ” free is not a business model”, running around my head for weeks now. I think it was a title from another blogger I read some weeks/months back. Then I keep hearing about this book ” The thank you economy”, and I’m having lots of thoughts about the slightly smoked screened way business can be conducted on the net. My little old brain in buzzing with this stuff at the moment, still don’t have all the answers yet, but liking your partnership idea. Its fun to collaborate with like minded people

Girl-child I hope you’re feeling better! I’ve been out of town, my laptop crashed and I’ve been out of the loop. I was soooo looking forward to see your sweet smiling face and hearing you tell me the scoop! Better make it gem this week ma’am! ;)

OK I’m totally selfish, I want both!! :) Actually, I think they overlap and I try to balance information with inspiration and that would be for both a reader and/or customer. It’s this whole full circle idea I have in my head. I laugh when you pose questions because, darn girl, you make me think and that’s not always a good thing! He, he!!

Let me know how you are friend! Be safe, be blessed!

Blue skies and good feelings,

Elena

I’m glad you like my questions, I have help, lol. To be honest I ask the questions I get asked myself….coming full circle really. I’m with you..eventually I want both. Not entirely sure exactly how it works, but I’ll work it out, when the time is right. Lets exchange skype id’s and have a 1-1 chat sometime? .xx
